Participation at the 11th EDCTP Forum, Paris 7th – 10th November 2023 – Partnering for Global Health Research Innovation and Impact in Africa – Celebrating EDCTP: two decades and beyond.

The 11th EDCTP Forum was held in Paris, France from 7th to 10th November 2023 at the Palais des Congrès de Paris. It marked the 20th anniversary of the EDCTP and presented the new programme EDCTP3. The EDCTP Forum is a biennial event that provides an international platform for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research addressing the burden of poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa and the capacity development and networking activities that support this goal. At the forum, research progress and achievements of the first 20 years of EDCTP were discussed as well as scientific challenges to be addressed in the next decade.

1st in-person investigators’ meeting in Barcelona – November/December 2022

On 30th November and 1st December 2022, the first MA-CoV in-person investigators’ meeting was held in Barcelona and hosted by the team of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, following another 2-day investigators’ meeting for MAMAH. Investigators and project managers from Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL), Gabon; Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (CISM), Mozambique; Eberhart Karls University Tübingen (EKUT), Germany; Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), Germany; and ISGlobal, Spain, attended both in person and virtually, and with online presence of the EDCTP MA-CoV project officer.

This one-and-a-half-day hybrid meeting, was an excellent networking opportunity where attendees discussed updates on the MA-CoV project, proposals for ancillary studies and potential training opportunities.





CISM principal investigator visits ISGlobal – March 2022:

MA-CoV principal investigator Dr. Tacilta Nhampossa visited ISGlobal Barcelona from March 29th to 2nd April. She is Senior Researcher and Coordinator of the Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health Program at the Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (CISM) in Mozambique. As part of the networking activities between ISGlobal and CISM, during her stay in Barcelona, Dr. Nhampossa participated as lecturer in the Maternal and Reproductive Health course of the Master of Global Health (ISGlobal-UB) which is organised by ISGlobal’s Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health Initiative.

ISGlobal Project Coordinator visits Mozambique – January 2022:

In the week of 24th of January, project coordinator Dr. Raquel González visited principal investigator Dr. Tacilta Nhampossa and her team at the Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (CISM). During these days, final preparations were done in order to start recruitment of pregnant women in the MA-CoV study, to assess the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infections during pregnancy and their impact on maternal and infant health in a cohort in Mozambique.

ISGAttendance to the 10th EDCTP Forum, Maputo 17th – 21st, October 2021 – Equity in research for health:

The 10th EDCTP Forum was held as a virtual meeting hosted from the Joaquin Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo from 17-20 October 2021. The Forum theme was Equity in research for health.

The MA-CoV Consortium members attended virtually and live from Maputo.
